Mary Anne Giangola, CFM
Our first Member Spotlight for 2005 is on Mary Anne Giangola, CFM. Mary Anne has been an active member of our Chapter since 1990, and is one of our founding Charter members. Mary Anne is presently a Facility Manager with TransCore located at 8600 Jefferson NE. TransCore designs and manufactures radio frequency identification systems used in transportation applications. Her facility employees 250 folks and is a 24/7 operation. Nationwide TransCore has 1,800 employees.
Her career with Transcore started seventeen years ago, when the company was located in Santa Fe. Mary Anne has made the TransCore Albuquerque facility a showpiece both architecturally and functionally. Mary Anne said “ When I started with TransCore’s predecessor company Amtech, we were in a rapid growth phase. I was fortunate to be able to create the position of facility manager, literally and fig from the ground up”.
Her career was not always in Facility Management. In her college days, she received a degree in History, and wanted to be a teacher, but those aspirations took a different course. She said “I’m sure the children in New Mexico would thank me, if they knew”. She worked as a caseworker for Bernalillo County, and later a position at the accounting firm, Arthur Young, which got her interested in the Facility Management career with tenant build-outs, phone systems and furniture.
Her greatest challenges as a Facility Manager with Transcore have been the transitions her company has seen following three ownership changes. She says ownership changes will affect corporate philosophy, which in turn requires flexibility of the Facility Manager. New signage, new corporate identity, and new approaches to budget are only a few of the challenges. But her easy-going manner and her great communication and writing skills have smoothed all these transitions with her employees.
Mary Anne has been active in our Chapter having served as Vice President and President. She is also serves as a Director for the New Mexico Facilities Network. She says, as a Facility Manager you tend to be isolated in your position, so networking with other Facility Managers and folks who share your interest is extremely beneficial.
Mary Anne is happily married to her husband Tony of 9 years and they have 4 children between them. But Tony beat her to the punch by being a “grandparent” first. He is indeed a lucky fellow!
Member of the New Mexico IFMA Chapter congratulate Mary Anne in her many years of dedication to our Chapter and in the Facility Management profession and wish her many more years of success and personal happiness.
