David
Miller, CFM, CFMJ
Our
second Member Spotlight for 2004 is David Miller, CFM, CFMJ.
Dave joined
our Chapter over a decade ago and served as our President in
the mid 90s.
But before he became
involved with IFMA, Davie was a USAF fighter pilot,
and during this military
career he received his Bachelor Degree in Business Management
from San Diego State
University and later earned
his MBA from Golden Gate
University in San Francisco. After retiring from the military,
Dave stated
a printing business and
later opened a women’s apparel store
in Alamogordo, New Mexico. He answered the call for
public service and became involved in local government where he
served on the
Planning and Zoning Committee
was elected to the Alamogordo City Council and after that tenure,
eventually became the City’s
Public Works Director.
Through his association
with the American Public Works Association he became
familiar with our local IFAM
Chapter.
Dave
became our President
in 1995. He realized the importance of professional certification
and during his tenure as President
the number of CFM’s went from only a hand full to over
twenty. This was quite
an accomplishment for our Chapter, and for years we had one
of the highest ratios of Certified Facility
Managers to membership
in the country. Dave believes that possessing IFMA certification
will definitely enhance your career ladder,
which equates to greater
income. This fact increases interest and motivation to be a
member of IFMA.
Presently
Dave works as a Deputy
Project Manager for Chugach McKinley Inc. He says his company
does everything from “roads to
commodes”, and further says that your career, like his,
in facility management
can be very diverse, rewarding and definitely very marketable.
Dave
has five children with his wife Donna of 44 years and eight
grandchildren, with his oldest granddaughter entering law school.
Dave considers himself quite an athlete with his bowling and
golf score interchangeable at around 120.
Members of the IFMA
New Mexico Chapter congratulate David Miller CFM, CFMJ in all
of his accomplishments in his military service
and for greatly improving
the professionalism of our Chapter.
